How to Fix Discovery 1 Gloves Box Cover

The Land Rover Discovery 1 is well known for many good reasons, none of them related to it’s plastic parts quality 🙂

My gloves box cover had been broken by my son in a rainy day, I fixed it using some glue and heat and it works just fine (besides looking really bad) till my daughter decided to kick it and broke it again…

So, I had no choice but to replace it/fix it. I looked for a grey replacement with no success, therefore, I decided to manufacture a new one, at home, by myself.

I used 2mm Aluminum sheet which I had in my “junk yard”, a thinner sheet would be good as well. I bent it to the required shape and right after I drilled the hings out, I gave it a second thought and decided to use the inner part and save some work.

In the movie below you can see most of the work process, at some point, my go pro battery drained and I only have some photos.

Anyway, I used rivets and glue to join the original inner part with my new Aluminium cover, then, I painted it with u-pol Raptor to get a surface like the rest of the dashboard.
