Discovery 1 Heavy Duty Rear Bumper – DIY

Ken Smith (facebook @Ken Smith) decided to build a new Heavy Duty rear bumper for his V8 Discovery 1. In the following pictures you can see his project.

Most of the project is made of 1/4″ thick steel walls. He cut the frame right after the rear cross member and added new support crossbeam behind the wheels to the sides of the bumper. that way, the bumper is being connected to the frame in more points than the original one and can be used to hi-lift the disco from any point of it.

Tow attachments are 1″ thick bought from an Off Road builder in the US

The center of the bumper is taller in order to protect the body mounts

Last, but not least, the spare tire carrier pivot had been welded in place (instead of carrying it on the back door)

The final result:

Ken also builds great heavy duty front bumpers, contact him on facebook for details.
