DIY Dislocation kit for a Discovery 1

A year and a half ago I installed “King” coil spring and Terrafirma shocks on my 98 disco tdi. Last week, during an offroading trail one of the rear coil springs went out of its place. We noticed that few minutes later, seems that it was few minutes too much for the poor spring…

So, I started to look for a solution for the new springs, the cause to the problem is that when the disco “flexes”, one of the rear wheels goes down and the spring moves out of its place, when the wheel moves up again, the spring doesn’t return to its place but few cm near it, outside its mount.

It is a known issue with known solutions, I had to choose between installing the cone that keeps the spring in place on the axle or on the upper mount.

I decided to install it on the axle since it seems that when installing on the top you’ll have much more loud knocks when the springs gets back to its place.

So, I started to measure and plan the kit:

The diameter of the cone’s base should be 94-95mm. I used a 98mm drill:

Then I cut 2 triangles, 105mm base, 120mm height:

I welded the parts together and created the top mount which will keep the coil spring in its place:

Time to install everything on the discovery:

That’s how it looks while driving off road:
