Noco Genius Boost GB40 Review

A jump start battery (aka Booster) is a “must have” in every SUV that actually drives and travel. You can never know when will the battery die since you forgot to turn off the lights in the camp or the refrigerator limit wasn’t set to the correct protection level.

After few years with some cheap eBay jump start batteries and good thick pair of jump start cables I decided to buy a little more expensive and a well known brand, Noco. There was a sale on Amazon so I decided to buy the Noco GB40. Few days earlier, I bought a cheap Chinese jump start battery from eBay (before I found out about the sale on Amazon).

Both items arrived pretty fast. The Noco costed me twice than the Chinese one, but looks and feels like a different league of product. cables are much thicker, usb charging cable feels much better than the cheap Chinese one and the general feeling is that you get what you paid for. Till….

Till you start working with it 🙁

I had some problems with my D1 battery and I needed the jump starter every 2-3 days. The Noco couldn’t start my D1 (300tdi, 2.5 diesel engine) while the Chinese did with no issues at all.

After few weeks, I had to start another car, a small Citroen C3 (1.6 petrol engine) and I tried the Noco again, this time, it did nothing. it shows that it is fully charged but it does nothing (no fault alert, just no power, flash light is still on). The Chinese model on the other hand, works great…

Bottom line, that Noco cost twice but doesn’t deliver, at least not in my case. I searched the web and found out many more people that suffer from the same/similar issues. I would stick with the Chinese models.
