How to install Allisport Expansion/Overflow Tank

Land Rover Discovery 1 & 2 are known for their exploding overflow tanks. Too much heat becomes to too much pressure and while it combines with an old plastic the explosion is just a matter of time. Therefore, I decided to upgrade my 300Tdi expansion tank to a new Allisport’s Aluminium one.

First, I bought the AlliSport Expansion Tank from eBay (Click the link to buy from the seller I bought from, fast delivery, as described and support our site).

The installation itself is pretty easy, You will need a 10mm socket/spanner and a screwdriver for the pipe’s bands.

First, I emptied the old tank so it won’t spill around, pay attention, the coolant is extremely toxic to cats/dogs. Then, I remove the 3 10mm nuts, disconnect the pipes and wash the area with fresh water, so if it leaks, I’ll see.

See the nuts location in the pictures below:

I connected the pipes to the new tanks, fitted the 10mm nuts back in place, filled coolant to the half of the tank and then let the engine run for few minutes with the cap off, allowing any air to go out.

You can see the whole process in the video below:

Finally, Allisport’s overflow tank is installed:
